The coating process is the operation by means of which a specific chemical product of given rheological characteristics is laid on a continuous substrate.
The coating technique can utilize different supports such us the usage of a blade or a rotary cylinder. The industrial process is not only limited to the coating station itself, but is integrated with other devices (e.g. rewinders, unwinders, pulling and control systems, etc.) that make up a complete production line.
In the wood based panel industry, the purpose of coating is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the panel whilst also giving the surface itself specific technical properties, such as hardness, abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, resistance to stains and chemical agents, heat and moisture resistance, etc.
